I have found Randy to be a good engineer to work with.  His drive to ensure that the right thing is done for the project beyond just his own direct responsibilities has helped the overall team make strides in the maturity of the online services that he has worked with.  His technical skills are very good and his understanding of the technologies involved goes beyond wrote memorization that many of the engineers I have worked with in the past have shown.  This has in many cases ensured success where someone less experienced would not have seen the "ohh by the way" issues until after they were live.
